[Hi readers =) I posted this on the wrong blog it’s supposed to go on my iheart852 tumblr. So sorry for the repeated posts on your dashboards!] My Godmom planned on taking my mom out to Sevva for her early birthday. Picked up an old HK Magazine and coincidentally found a review on Sevva in it. And when I went tonight. HK Magazine was pretty accurate [http://hk-magazine.com/review/sevva]
I also wanted to check out the website and it was alright. For such a high class restaurant I was honestly quite dissapointed at the website. The menu wasn’t up there which I don’t know if it’s an American thing to have it, but I was surprised and there weren’t that many photos of the restaurant. The website is dizzy to look at and the web designer was not very skilled..
But the view was honestly amazing if you walk out to the Terrace - which is open to any customer. It was quite breath taking stepping out into the terrace with these gorgeous buildings just facing you. And Tsim Sha Tsui was visible at a distance. This aspect Sevva definitely gets 5 stars for - the view/Location. It’s set on the rooftop of Prince’s Building [25th floor] the lift has only 3 buttons.

Service was not that great. They were considerate but at the same time not.. we ordered an appetiser Dosa and shared it and it was huge! and my Godmom commented on that and said if we didn’t share it they were going to make this huge long portion of this Dosa which is like a long indian crepe? that’s the best to how I can describe it. Just half of this thing made me full for the rest of the night.
Some items on the menu were deceiving i.e. mine: The claypot. you’d think its claypot rice. It’s not even served in a claypot. And if you don’t like peas you better not order it. It’s this big bowl of soup with these crispy rice things that isn’t like the shanghainese crispy rice things. with some chicken and mushroom shreds.. nothing special.
Oh forgot to mention they have a bread basket which was good. And it was cute that they gave each person a round block of butter that seemed like they served it in a soy sauce dish.
Materialistically it was just a beautiful place. We went for dinner so the place was dimly lit, we got this booth spot that gave us some privacy but was hard for the servers to serve the inner people. Because it was a U-shaped booth so I don’t know if you can imagine it.. Lots of comfy and pretty cushions everywhere. Spacious table with 3 black wired candlesticks and everything on the table was just gorgeous! They cutlery was pretty, their teapots were so gorgeous with this modern minimalist feel.
The food was well presentated but none of it just tasted outstanding. the food honestly was quite mediocre. we had 2 desserts. And one of them was this marie antoinettes favourite which they warned us would take 45 minutes and when it came my uncle commented. How on earth did that take so long? Honestly. I don’t know either.. and it wasn’t really worth the wait. It was really pretty. But taste wise.. unless you love macaroons and cotton candy. It’s a waste of calories.
Oh about the service, so they’re considerate in a way that they’re routinely good in constantly filling our glasses with bottled evian water and our wine glasses and taking our food away at the right time. They asked us whether we were sure if we’d like to eat outside because it’s really cold and windy. So my mom and aunt sent me out to check and the terrace was very much cold and windy. So we stayed indoors in our lush comfy booth to eat our dessert. And I stood up and asked where the terrace was, she misheard me and escorted me to the bathroom. Which was pretty funny because I guess I actually needed to go to. The bathrooms were really nice. 3 specious cubicles each with your own sink inside and the paper napkin was really nice. but too many mirrors.. Anyway the bad point about the service was. They barely smiled…. of the many servers we had only a couple of them did they seem like they were showing a genuine “I care” attitude towards us. So HK magazine were right, service was quite snobby and not especially approchable and friendly. But they were considerate.
I really have mixed feelings for this place. I wish they maybe had a better chef and manager and the restaurant would just be filled every night with happy rich people. This place is not for children. At night anyway. Everyone there seemed like they just came out of work from around the area (Central) and were grabbing a drink, or people booked days/weks beforehand for a intimate little dinner. I was probably, actually I think I was, the youngest person at that restaurant. And no old people there either.. The place really is worth going at night for the design of the restaurant, the ambience. I wish I could have sat at every spot available in the restaurant from my booth, the bankside, the harbourside, and the terrace. They all seemed really cool to sit at. And the terrace really is just worth going to, just reserve a spot for 2 at the terrace at night to enjoy the magnificent view of being surrounded by these beautiful buildings. But don’t expect to be spending so much cash for amazing food and service though, but just for the location and style.
Wow that was a long post. Won’t blame you if no one read the entire post.
